OMAHA- Alex Gordon made a brief return to his home state. The Royals third baseman took another step in his recovery process by playing one game with the Omaha Royals.
Gordon had surgery to repair torn cartilage in his hip on April 17. He has been rehabbing ever since.
"Each day I want to do more and more except they won't let me just because they don't want me to push it. I'm feeling a lot better now and doing a lot of exercises."
The plan is for Gordon to head to Double-A Northwest Arkansas to get more game action before joining the big league club sometime after the All-Star break. Right now, Gordon says he feels fine when hitting. However, he thinks the fielding is coming along a little slower.
"I feel good. Pain-free. The most important thing is keeping up with my exercises, keeping my legs getting stronger and getting back to where I was."
The third baseman only appeared in seven games this season. He could have tried to play through the pain all season long but did not feel that would be possible.
"I wasn't having fun. I wasn't enjoying the game. It was more of a trying to get through every inning without any pain, and I think the best option was to get the surgery done and be here at this time."
